A Muslim shower is one of the easiest bathroom fittings to install yourself, as long as the wall already has a water point beside the toilet. This guide covers the parts, the steps and how to fix the usual leaks.
The parts you need
- A wall point: a threaded pipe end in the wall beside the toilet, usually ½ inch. In a new bathroom this is a PPR female threaded elbow set in the wall.
- A tee cock (angle valve): screws into the wall point, and lets you shut off the shower without turning off the whole bathroom.
- A hose: connects the tee cock to the head.
- The head and its holder.
A full set comes with the head, hose and holder. A head on its own is for replacing a worn one.

Tools
- PTFE (Teflon) tape
- An adjustable spanner, and a cloth to protect the chrome
- A drill, wall plugs and screws for the holder
- A pencil and a spirit level
Step by step
- Shut off the water to the bathroom, or at the main valve, and open a tap to drain the line.
- Clean the wall point's thread, then wrap a few turns of PTFE tape on the tee cock's thread, in the direction it screws in.
- Screw in the tee cock by hand, then tighten it with the spanner until the outlet points where the hose will hang. Don't overtighten; a chrome body can crack.
- Mark the holder's position within easy reach of the toilet, where the hose can hang without stretching. Drill, fit the plugs and screw the holder on.
- Connect the hose: one end screws onto the tee cock, the other onto the head. The washers in the hose nuts make the seal, so these joints don't need tape. Hand-tight plus a small turn is enough.
- Turn the water on slowly and check every joint for drips. Press the trigger and check again.

Fixing a leaking Muslim shower
| Where it leaks | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| From the head with the trigger released | Worn seal inside the head | Replace the head |
| At either end of the hose | Missing or flattened washer | Fit a new washer, or replace the hose |
| From the hose itself | Cracked or kinked hose | Replace the hose |
| Around the tee cock at the wall | Not enough PTFE tape, or a cracked body | Refit with fresh tape, or replace the tee cock |
| Weak or crooked spray | Limescale in the nozzles | Soak the head in white vinegar |
